I only started submitting my poems and stories to prove to my best friend, who kept nagging me to get them published, that no one would accept them... I was delighted to be wrong! In 2009 I was runner up in the Woman & Home Fiction Prize, in 2010 I won the Marple Humorous Poetry Prize and I'm now a regular on Manchester's lively Spoken Word circuit. In 2012 I won the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Prize, the Sampad 'Inspired by Tagore' Contest, the Malahat Review Monostich Contest and the Swanezine Poetry Contest, and blogged for the Huffington Post. In 2013 I won the M.R. Jordan Short Fiction Prize, the Plenitude 'Twiction' Contest and a Creative Futures Literary Gold Award. My work has been published all over the world in such publications as Popshot, Third Wednesday, Cha, Starline and Prole. I co-edited the anthologies Best of Manchester Poets vols. 1, 2 and 3 and my collection, 'Contains Strong Language and Scenes of a Sexual Nature' was published recently. I'm currently writing a book called 'How to Win Writing Competitions (and make money doing so) and yes, I have bought my best friend a drink or two. See more at www.cathybryant.co.uk
